Welcome Letter

August 13, 2012

Dear Parent/Guardian:

Welcome to the 2012-2013 School Year!

I am honored to be able to introduce myself as the new principal of John T. Nichols, Jr., Middle School.  It has been a very exhilarating summer for me to get started here at Nichols.  The middle school level is a special time and has always been an exceptional place to me; it is where I started my teaching career and where my heart has always been.

My first undertaking as principal was to hire a new assistant principal.  I believe the search was most successful in great part to the help and support of the NMS teachers and staff, who were involved in the process.  Our pursuit led to the hiring of Mr. Timothy McLaughlin.  Tim comes to us from the Boston Public Schools, where he was Dean of Students at a Roslindale middle school.  He brings with him an enthusiasm for the position and a knowledge-base of how to do the job well.
Since his hire, Tim and I have been working on the finishing touches to make sure the school ready for the upcoming year.  I have had the chance to meet many of you so far, and I would like to thank all of you for welcoming me to the Middleboro Public Schools.  I am very excited to get the school year started and the opportunity to meet you and your child.  The first day of school for students is Wednesday, September 5.

A chance to “Meet and Greet the New NMS Administration” will be next Tuesday, August 21, at 9 AM, and also for those, who cannot make a morning time on Thursday, August 23, at 6 PM, both in the NMS Auditorium.

Our Parent Walk-Through for any and all students (especially incoming 6th graders and any new students to the district) will be held at the NMS Auditorium on Tuesday, August 28, at 10 AM.  We look forward to seeing you there.

Thank you, enjoy the rest of your summer, and I can’t wait to see all of you on September 5.

Sincerely,

Martin R. Geoghegan
