6th Grade Open House = Sweet Success

A Sweet Evening for Incoming 6th Grade Students

On Monday, August 25, evening NMS hosted our 6th Grade Open House/Ice Cream Social.  Our incoming sixth grade students were able to meet their teachers and their teacher team while being introduced to the Nichols Middle School building.

It was a tremendous evening to help alleviate the anxiety and fear of our incoming students, as well as their parents.

The end of the night culminated in an ice cream social provided for by our Nichols Middle School PTA as bowls of ice cream were scooped by PTA President Rose Borges, Art Teacher Extraordinaire Jeriann Tucker, Challenger Team Science Teacher Karen Curtin, Mom and ASD Coordinator Kim Redlon, Assistant Principal Tim McLaughlin, and Principal Marty Geoghegan.

Thank you to all who helped in the evening's events and to all our parents and students who came; you made the night a sweet success.

Almost August 27th ...

Welcome Back! ... Soon Enough

Long time, no hear . . . I know.

It has been a busy summer wrapping up the 2013-2014 school year, taking some time off, going to conferences, coaching lots of little league baseball, and trying to piece together all the things we need to get done so we are ready for the start of our new school year beginning on Wednesday, August 27.

Just a short reminder:  Please pass on to new 6th Grade Parents how they should register for an email update whenever this blog is updated.  Entering their email address to the right.
                                                                                                                              à à à à  à à  à à

I hope everyone has had an enjoyable, restful, and relaxing summer.  There is still time left to enjoy it; though, if you watch TV, all the "back to school" ads are in full swing.

But I do need to tell you about some of the news we have to start the school year off right:

Our plan is on Wednesday, August 20, we will be posting Homeroom Assignments on the windows of the school for students in all grades and parents to see which team their child is on.  I will send out an AlertNow message to confirm this around the 20th.

Grade 6 Open House/Orientation will be held at the Nichols Middle School on Monday, August 25, 2014, at 6 PM.  This will be 6th Grade parents' opportunity with your child to see the school and meet his/her teachers.  We look forward to seeing you there.  At this event, we will be introducing Mr. Tim McLaughlin, our assistant principal, our sixth grade teachers, other important personnel, and myself.  We will start the evening at 6 PM in the Auditorium, and then you will be led to your child’s teacher team for introductions there on the sixth grade floor, to finish in the cafeteria for an ice cream social, sponsored by our NMS PTA.

On Wednesday, August 27, 2014, we have our first day of school for all students.

We have a new Nichols Middle School Twitter account, which I will use to post reminders and other short news items, which I can do in 140 characters or less.  If you would like to follow the account, it is @JTNicholsMS, which I have a feed provided to the right as well.  But if you use Twitter, please click the Follow button to follow us at @JTNicholsMS.

There will be more to come, but please, again, remind all parents to follow this blog and get the email updates, and also start to follow NMS on Twitter.

Thanks; talk soon; enjoy the rest of the summer,
M. R. Geoghegan

ROAR-ing to a Finish

May and June 2014 ROAR Award Winners

This year NMS faculty, and specifically Mr. McLaughlin, has begun a new program, which recognizes student achievement each month.  The ROAR award is given by each cluster, and Unified Arts, to acknowledge students who have been Respectful, On-time, (positive) Attitude, and Responsible.  The goal is to recognize students who not only take care of basic expectations in class but are good citizens and role models in our community.

Award winners receive a certificate, bumper stickers for their parents’ cars, and their individual picture displayed in the school for the month.

Final Report Cards -- Have a Great Summer!

Third Trimester and Final Grades Report Cards

This afternoon all Nichols' households will be receiving an Alert-Now message reminding everyone that Final Report Cards were handed out to the students and will come home today.

If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact the Main Office.

I also wanted to take the time to thank everyone in the Nichols' community for all your support as we traversed another year here at NMS which had many changes.

It has been a wonderful year and it has been because of the students, teachers, staff, parents, and overall community.

Thank you so much for all that you have done to support the work we have done with your child.

Thank you, again, for an incredible year, good luck to our 8th graders next year, and have a wonderful, safe, and relaxing summer vacation.

We will see you on August 27 for the start of another fantastic year.
