After-School Math Program at NMS
The John T. Nichols, Jr. Middle School is proud to offer an after school math
program to support students leading up to their math MCAS exam. This program is
funded through a Title 1 grant. Our after school math program is free for all of our students. The
program will begin on Monday, March 4th and conclude on Wednesday,
May 6th. It will run on each Monday and Wednesday after school from
2:35-3:35pm, with the exception of vacation weeks or school holidays. Students
will be able to take the late bus home.
At
the start of the program students will be given a grade specific assessment to
provide instructors with data to guide instruction for students within the
program. Historical MCAS data will also be considered.
A
typical afternoon session will consist of about 15 minutes of whole group
instruction with a targeted mini-lesson. This will be followed with
opportunities to reinforce content with small group and or individualized
instruction.
It
is our expectation that students will commit to attend each after school
session. This will enable staff to best support each student and meet their
individual needs. We ask that the student and their family sign a letter of
commitment to make every attempt to attend the 17 after school sessions.
If
you have any questions, please call 508-946-2020, or email the school and ask for either Ms. Melanie
