Middleborough High School Program of Studies Night for Incoming 9th Grade Students

The MHS Program of Studies Night is an evening to learn about the course and program offerings for for the 2017-2018 school year for Grades 8 - 11.  It is an evening to meet and engage with the MHS Guidance Department. The program is Thursday, January 12, from 6:30 to 8 PM, in the MHS Auditorium with a special technical assistance with Aspen from 5:30 to 6:30 PM in the MHS Media Center.  

The evening will include an overview of the core courses that are expected for each grade and the wealth of elective programs that are offered to all MHS students.  We encourage students to attend as well.

8th Grade students and parents should have received an invitation letter detailing this evening program.

We will open the MHS Library at 5:30 PM for technical assistance for any parent/guardian in need of Aspen assistance.  Our scheduling process is done completely through Aspen, and we want to ensure that all families are comfortable with the process.  The MHS Guidance Department will be available to help any family navigate the scheduling portal and help with the selection of courses.  This opportunity is open to all students in Grades 8 - 11.

The evening will include a presentation by the MHS Guidance Department outlining the Program of Studies and what a typical schedule will look like for students in the rising 9th - 12th grade student.  Additionally, the program will look at graduation requirements and step-by-step process on how to schedule using Aspen.

Parents and future Sachems can learn about the four-year program at Middleborough High School and learn about the 9th grade experience.  Here is a link to the MHS Guidance website.

NMS 2017 Scholastic Art Entries

Scholastic Art and Writing 2017

For 93 years, the Scholastic Art and Writing Awards have recognized the exceptional vision of our nation’s youth. Established in 1923, by Scholastic, Inc. founder Maurice R. Robinson, the Scholastic Awards have grown to become the nation’s highest honor and largest source of scholarships for creative teens. Through a nationwide partner network of more than 100 Affiliates, the 2016 Awards received nearly 320,000 submissions spanning 29 categories of art and writing. The School of the Museum of Fine Arts in conjunction with the Boston Globe, is the Regional Affiliate for the State of Massachusetts.

Students are encouraged by their educators, both in schools and through out-of-school programs, to submit their original work. All students in grades 7 through 12, whether in public, private, or home schools, can apply. Submissions are juried by a panel of noteworthy professionals, some of whom are past award recipients. The judges look for works that “best exemplify originality, technical skill and the emergence of personal voice or vision.”

NMS's Spring Play -- Alice @ Wonderland

Alice @ Wonderland

The Theatrical Player’s Club has now started its fifth season. This year’s play is a twist on the old classic, “Alice in Wonderland.” The play “Alice @ Wonderland” has all of the same characters that we all love, but with one exception, Alice is a modern day girl complete with a cell phone and an attitude.

Follow Alice as she enters Wonderland (see what happens whenever this word is spoken), looking for a place to charge her phone.

This show will be in rehearsal every Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday after school in the auditorium.

All cast and crew members have a schedule of dates when they will need to be at rehearsal.

The dates of the performances are Friday March 31, 2017 at 7:00 PM, and Saturday April 1, 2017 at 3:00 and 7:00 PM.

All Nichols Middle School students are welcome to join our lively and talented cast or crew.

If you missed the information meeting, please come and see Mrs. Weaver in room C206 for the information packets.  

Auditions for the cast are after school in Mrs. Weaver’s room on:

Monday, January 9th for grade 8,

Tuesday, January 10th for grade 7, and Wednesday, January 11th for grade 6.

If you are unable to attend on your grades day, please come on one of the other dates.

Attention All Students:

Do you enjoy being on stage acting and having fun?

Do you enjoy working the scenes of a play?

Well, then the NMS Theatrical Player's Club is the place for you.

The Club will be performing a new take on an old classic, "Alice @ Wonderland."  This non-musical play follows a modern-day Alice looking for a place to recharge her cell phone through Wonderland.

If you are interested in joining, please come to an informational meeting on Wednesday, January 4, after-school in the Auditorium.
