Mr. Dick Hoyt of Team Hoyt Visits NMS

Very, Very Special Presentation for the Students of the Nichols Middle School

On Thursday, March 14, the NMS PTSA was able to bring Mr. Dick Hoyt to make a special presentation to the students of the Nichols Middle School.

Mr. Hoyt is, in his words, "not the better half of Team Hoyt," but for us at NMS, he was beyond sensational.

Team Hoyt, for those who may not know, is the inspirational story of a father, Dick Hoyt, and his son, Rick, who compete together in marathons and triathlons all over the world.  Dick pushes his son in a wheelchair, for Rick has not had the ability to walk since birth.  They have competed together in over 1,100 athletic events including the Boston Marathon, triathlons, and Ironman competitions.

Team Hoyt strives to help those who are physically disabled become active members of the community.  For us, at NMS, he carried forth Team Hoyt's message of "Yes You Can!" to our whole student population.   As  Mr. Hoyt said over and over to the students of Nichols Middle, "You can do anything you set your mind to doing."  It is a message that Dick and Rick Hoyt embody and live, and hopefully for our students they too will begin to believe and live for themselves.
