Olivia Benson & John Boersdamm Honored at SEDMMEA 2014

The South Eastern District of the Massachusetts Music Educator's Association sponsors an annual music festival for advanced music students in Grades 7-9. Hundreds of the best musicians in southeastern Massachusetts audition for the Festival, and each year, a few students from the Nichols Middle School are selected by audition to participate in the Festival.

The audition is based on the musician’s ability to demonstrate fluency in scales, accuracy in sight reading and musicianship on a prepared solo. Auditions take place in late January, and the festival occurs in early March.  Ensembles include Symphony Orchestra (including winds and percussion), Concert Band, Jazz Band, and Mixed Choir and Treble Choir.

This year Olivia Benson (violin) and John Boersdamm (euphonium) of the Nichols Middle School, and Noah Yeskewicz (percussion), of Middleborough High School, were chosen to participate in the Junior South East District Music Festival held this past weekend at Attleboro High School.

The musicians met for the first time on Friday, rehearsing all day Friday and Saturday
morning for a concert that they would perform on Saturday afternoon.  Both Olivia and John agreed that it was a wonderful experience, allowing them to grow musically.

We know that they will bring their experiences back to Nichols to enrich our local program with their musical contributions and lead by example.

Congratulations to both Olivia and John!  Tiger Pride showing through your hard work!
