An Evening With Louisa May Alcott November 5 at The Alley Theatre

An Evening With Louisa May Alcott on November 5, at The Alley Theatre

Audience members will have the opportunity to go back in time and meet Louisa May Alcott on Wednesday, November 5, at 7:00 p.m. at The Alley Theatre in Middleboro.  Reenactor Dr. Roseli Weiss will share the life and times of this great American novelist with children of all ages and their families. Born on November 29, 1832, Louisa lived in Massachusetts. Published in 1868, Little Women is set in the Alcott family home, Orchard House, in Concord and is loosely based on her childhood experiences with her three sisters. Louisa's remarkable life ended on March 6, 1888.

A lifelong lover of Louisa May Alcott, as a child Roseli read all of her books. Inspired by Louisa's forward thinking and desire to seek equality and independence, Roseli marveled at Louisa's feisty nature and driven spirit. Having spent much of life as an actress performing on local stages, Roseli decided to unite her love of teaching, acting and Louisa May by sharing her message with an audience. In 1995, Roseli began presenting a self-composed presentation entitled Meet Louisa May Alcott. The interactive workshop has been seen in schools all over New England.

The presentation begins with Roseli dressed as Louisa in 1800's period clothing. As Louisa, she walks into her sitting room to find unannounced guests in the audience.  From there she begins a narration about Louisa's life in the Civil War period of our Country. Audience members are encouraged to ask questions and share thoughts. The entire presentation is about an hour long. The overall message of the workshop is a celebration of perseverance and the will to live a rewarding and authentic life. This event is free to the public.

As Superintendent of the Middleboro Pubic Schools, Roseli is excited to share this educational experience with local students. She was quoted earlier this month saying, "As a child, I aspired to become someone like Louisa.  I was touched by the characterizations of her work. As a teacher, sharing knowledge and joy with children is what I love to do. I knew the chance to characterize Louisa would be something very special to share in the classroom." Roseli will be portraying Louisa's Aunt March in the production of Little Women at The Alley Theatre December 4 - 14.
