Cool Things Going on in the Nichols Middle School Media Center
The media center has been very active over the past 2 weeks with 8th grade ELA 2 working on “The Other Wes Moore Research Project”. The project began with a presentation from Mrs. Walgreen about how to find reliable, credible sources and how to cite them. Mrs. Walgreen showed students how to access online databases to find reliable information on their topic, and how to evaluate websites. For the project, students chose from a list of 10 topics related to the Wes Moore book they read over the summer; researched the topic using websites, books and databases; prepared a presentation; and finally presented their findings to the class. Students were able to use 21st Century Skills by gathering relevant information from multiple sources, assessing the credibility and accuracy of each source, engaging and collaborating effectively in groups, and tracking their progress towards specific goals and deadlines. They were able to use Chromebooks in the media center where they could access google documents, slides, Gmail, databases, and websites. Books and reference books were also used. Below are pictures of how the project went.
