NMS Fall Sports Teams Support Harvey Victims

Amazing Work Off the Field As Well

It does not amaze me, but when our NMS Tigers do awesome things I am always humbled by how sensational our kids are.

The following is a correspondence from Coach Kelly McLaughlin, Girls Soccer, and parent Mr. Ralph D'Emilia, to me on how our NMS Fall Sports Teams worked together under the influence of 8th Grade Soccer player, Julia D'Emilia, to help those affected by Hurricane Harvey.

It is #Awesome.

I love this.  This is what we mean when we are always trying to support the learning of our students to be positive world citizens.

In the end, the Fall Sports Teams were able to send a check to the Red Cross for $800!

These kids are so impressive.  Thank you, Coaches McLaughlin, Donovan (Boys Soccer), and Rich (Field Hockey)!

Thank you, Mr. D'Emilia!

Thank you to all our Fall players and parents for all your support and donations!

And, thank you, to Julia, for your getting it started.  You are a true TIGER!

Please see the notes below:

Hi Mr. G,

I wanted to take a second to recognize our fall sports teams (Girls + Boys Soccer and Field Hockey) who came together, under the orchestration of 8th grader Julia D'Emilia, to send a donation to Middle schoolers in Texas affected by the hurricane. They raised an incredible $400 and were then matched by the Kraft group to send a total of $800 in relief towards those who are struggling through the Red Cross fund.

There are some amazing students in our programs and I just wanted to make sure their kind efforts were recognized :)

Thanks!!
Coach Kelly McLaughlin

Also, I attached the receipt that includes the message we sent!

To ALL,

At the end of the game yesterday, we had $145 and a pledge of $20.   Julia brought home another envelope with $192 today!! Which put us at $357.  We decided to add the last $43 to make it an even $400!!   Here is the great news!  We made it just in time so we will get a match from the Kraft Group!! Below is a copy of the receipt and I also attached a screen shot of the E card that we sent.

This started with my company giving me literally a truckload of boxes  that I delivered to the Mayor’s office in Boston.  They filled those boxes with emergency needs.  There was enough to fill a tractor trailer.  Julia asked if we can help and wanted to do something as well.  So she approached coach Kelly.  Coach Kelly thought we should add the other sports team (another great idea).

I want to thank Julia and all of the coaches for doing all the work.  I simply typed 2 emails and put the teams’ donation through.

The biggest thanks goes to all of you who donated.   We are extremely proud to be associated with people who really care from this great community.   Please make sure the boy’s team and Field Hockey team knows that we made the donation and we wanted to thank them for their generosity as well!

best regards,

The D’Emilia family

Dear Ralph D'Emilia,The American Red Cross is very grateful for your generous gift of $400.00 on 09-13-2017 to Hurricane Harvey.
.
The humanitarian efforts of the Red Cross provide comfort and hope to so many during their times of need. Thank you for your commitment to this critically important work. Our mission depends on the support and compassion of donors like you.
On behalf of those we serve, thank you for standing with us.
Sincerely,

Gail McGovern
President and CEO, American Red Cross

All,

As a follow up to coach Kelly’s email, we will work together as a unified group to help the victims of the Harvey Storm tragedy.    As coach Kelly mentioned, please do not feel any pressure to make a contribution.  Any amount will be be a big help.    We chose the Red Cross as they have boots on the ground immediately after the storm and they have a lot of experience with natural disasters.   Unfortunately,  now Irma is bearing down on our families in the South so I’m sure that will leave a similar situation in Florida.

So Here is the plan:

Coach Kelly and Julia will collect daily donations so feel free to give your donation to Coach Kelly or Julia.   (some already came in so Thank you!)
Coach Kelly is working with Coach Kelly Rich and Coach Paul Donovan for Field Hockey and Boys soccer respectively.   Collections from Field Hockey and Boys soccer will funnel through Coach Kelly M.
I will be the last practice on September 11 and be at the first game for which is  September 12th and receive the final donations.   We will add Boys and Girls soccer along with Field Hockey and send one donation in to the Red Cross from 2017 Nichols Middle School Fall sports teams – Middleboro MA.     At the moment, there is a match still available from my work.  The Kraft Family is matching up to 1 million dollars for the Harvey Victims.   The amount is already up to $930,000 so I will have to monitor it closely in the next couple of days.

So our plan is to donate to the Red Cross and to get a match if it is still available  (you can see the match on line) .

Hope everyone has a great School year and thanks to the coaches for your support on an off the field.

best regards,

Ralph D’Emilia
