NMS 1st Tech Help Night = A Success

* Our Focus Is For Better Teaching & Learning

NMS's Parents' Tech Questions Answered

On Wednesday, October 4, evening in the NMS Media Center, thirty parents brought their technology questions, and hopefully got them answered.

To have 30 parents come and get the support they needed was awesome.  I can’t thank Dr. Melanie Gates, Ms. Louise Bertelli, Ms. Andrea Borges, Mr. Don Rothemich, Ms. Debbie Walgreen, Ms. Wendy Conant, Ms. Jeriann Tucker, Mr. Sean Siciliano, Ms. Katie Goodine, Ms. Stephanie Rae, and Mr. Greg Thomas for making the evening such a great success.

Having an evening such as this to reach out to our parents goes a long way to help show how we truly care about our students’ success and how much those parents do.

Many parents came in with questions about ...

Digits.

Dr. Gates helped out greatly with these for she led them through some of the problem-solving we have engaged in so far this year, doing many of the things explained in this post she wrote for us.  Dr. Gates worked with the most parents and helped them until 9 PM.  Thanks, Dr. Gates.

There were parents, who had questions about ...

Aspen.

These were handed by Ms. Katie Goodine, our MPS Aspen Specialist.  She was able to help many parents with their log-ins and just moving around in Aspen.  If you still have any Aspen questions, please do not hesitate to reach out to Ms. Goodine for she is awesome.

Google Apps for Education.
Google Classroom.

The questions of how we're utilizing Google, Google Classroom, and Google Apps were answered by many of us in the room, specifically, Ms. Bertelli, Ms. Borges, Ms. Conant, Mr. Rothemich, Ms. Tucker, and Ms. Walgreen.

Google Calendar.
Blogger.
Remind.

Parents had questions as to where Homework assignments were.  For Grade 7, both teams, they are utilizing Blogger.  Beacons here.  And Explorers here.  For Grade 6, both teams are having the students put their assignments in Google Calendar, and many teachers are utilizing the Remind app as a means to alert parents of impending assignments.

This Blog.

Mr. Geoghegan was able to begin the evening with a description of how this blog and our Twitter feed are both available for parents for announcements and communication on what is going on at the school.

The New MPS Website.

Mr. Siciliano had a small group of parents, who appreciated the look and feel of the new website.  It so much cleaner and easier to use, as many parents echoed as they were walked through it.

Our Chromebooks.

Parents wanted to know how the Chromebooks were handed out and when students had access to them.  We hand them to the students in Homeroom to have for the day, and then we plug them back in for the night at the end of the school day, so they are charged ready to go for the next day.

The night was very successful, but as I said that night and then at the PTA Meeting the next night, please don't wait to ask your questions.

When you have questions, reach out and ask.  Ask the teacher.  Ask any of us in the Main Office, or ask the Guidance Counselors.  Ask me.  Shoot me an email or give me a call.  I will reply within 24 hours (usually within a couple of hours).

We are all here to help you make sure your child's time at NMS is successful as well as your experience with us.  Just reach out to us.  We're here for you.
