As We March On ...

What a Month of Lessons!

What an amazing month February was.

We started it with a Patriots' Super Bowl Championship and in what an incredible fashion that occurred.

To be able to see the game as a teaching tool with our students and be able to explain to them to:

Never Give Up.
Learn from Mistakes.
Never Lose Hope No Matter How Far You're Down.
Trust in Yourself.
Do Your Best.
Never Stop Believing.
Trust in the Process.
Work Together as a Team.
Never, Ever Give Up.

All those words that we throw around in education currently were on display for our kids:  perseverance, grit, and growth mindset.  It was such a tremendous game and such a valuable lesson to help our students see in a real world example.

From there, we had our Cory's Cause presentations.  Here our students again got to learn such an invaluable life lesson from a real, true person in Cory Palazzi.  Our students were such great audience members taking in Cory's words of wisdom to hopefully stick with them as they have to meander through making the right choices in their own lives.

And, for me, my #ShadowAStudent Day with Nick was excellent.  I was able to see our students, teachers, faculty members, custodians, bus drivers, cafeteria workers, and assistant principals from a different point of view.  I see this on a daily basis but through the eyes of our students brings a different aspect to it.  I was so impressed with everyone involved.  I believe what we are doing here at Nichols and what we have been pushing and driving is getting us to a positive direction, and this day helps to support that belief.

I was going to post this this morning, and I am glad that I did not get a chance so that I could add our #SpreadTheWordToEndTheWord Day here at NMS today.  Our very own sixth grade student, Zoe Morrison initiated the day here and got it going with a heartfelt announcement over the loudspeaker.

Then during all three lunches students signed a petition to end the use of the R-Word.  It displayed the inclusive, respectful community we know we can be.

As the sun begins to set later and later each day, we realize we are heading towards spring.  It too is a sign of hope.  This past month certainly held up its end of the bargain to be a beacon of hope that we are doing some positive things here, and we continue to thrive as much as we can to build upon it in this new month of March.
