Nichols Middle School Girls Soccer Fall 2017 Write Up

NMS Girls Soccer Fall 2017

The following is written by Coach Kelly McLaughlin, who did a sensational job again writing this post as well as coaching our NMS Girls Soccer team this year. She is such a positive influence in the lives of our incredible young ladies, who play soccer. One can see she has a love for the game and continues to instill that feeling in all of her players, who were, again, an awesome group of girls. I thank her, the team, the parents, Mr. Ryan Sylvia our AD, and everyone who worked so hard this year to make the NMS Girls soccer team a success. Thank you.

Here is Coach McLaughlin:

The NMS soccer girls wrapped up their third season on Thursday, October 26th.  Coming into the season, we knew it was going to be difficult to replace the eleven 8th graders who are now Sachems, and that we would have to rebuild our team.  I am incredibly proud of the way these girls improved as the season went on and really began to play as a team.  They worked tirelessly through every practice and although their record does not show their success, if you were fortunate enough to see them play you know that their improvements were drastic.  Many of these girls have not played together before, but by the end of the season their ability to read each other and support each on and off the field was very impressive.

The team was lead by 8th grade captains Arjanai Jones, Alexandria Birkett and Shaunna Gallagher, who were instrumental in supporting our 6th graders and unifying our team.  As impressive as they were on the field together, I am even more impressed by the care they showed off the field.

The girls started off the season raising money to send to teams in Texas who lost so much in the hurricane.  They also showed their support for breast cancer research by having a wear pink game to raise awareness.   Finally, the girls decided to show support for their past and future teammates by walking over to cheer on the JV Sachems at the Field of Dreams as a team.  I feel very lucky to have worked with such a caring and talented group of girls and will miss this group of 8th graders as they continue on to represent Middleboro as Sachems next year! Go TIGERS!!!
