NMS Students Engage in "Energy Quest" in Science

On Monday, May 2, and Tuesday, May 3, our seventh grade students were able to go through this interactive mobile program, which came to NMS with the help of Mr. Scott Redpath, our Science Department Leader/8th Grade Science Teacher, Ms. Karen Curtin, 6th Grade Science Teacher, and STEM Director, Dr. Melanie Gates.

Students walked through this inflatable "house" to help them understand energy and becoming more energy conscious.

It was a tremendous treat to see our students engage with the program and learn.  Here is some information from the Eversource Energy Quest website and some pictures of our students in the "model house."

Energy Quest™ is a 40-minute program designed for middle school students, grades 6-8.

This fully interactive, technology-based program transforms students into home energy auditors as they explore an inflatable home simulator looking for areas of energy consumption. Each student will be given an iPad mini to take with them as they navigate the inflatable, which will prompt questions about energy conservation as they locate electricity, water, or gas being used.

Energy Quest™ is provided to any school free of charge as long as they are located within an area serviced by Eversource.

About Energy Quest™

Energy Quest™ is a fully interactive, technology-based program for middle school students in grades 6-8. This program transforms students into home energy investigators. Students move through an inflatable environment and use visual cues to locate areas where electricity, water, or gas is being used. Upon locating these “use” areas, students interact with a provided tablet to test their knowledge and learn about better energy conservation methods.
Through this program, Eversource hopes to provide students with real-world examples of how they can be more conscious of their daily energy use.
